On my needles
I’m experimenting with some Tahki Cotton Classic yarn, and liking it so far. Wish me luck with how it all ends up.

I am in the middle of looking for as many pear recipes as I can find. The pear tree is getting so close to harvest I can hardly contain myself. Our apple trees smell so delicious outside and I think the deer would agree. Lately I have had a little issue with the deer helping themselves to the branches of my tomato plants. I can’t really blame them considering the garden is pretty open for temptation, and the apple trees are also right there for them. I haven’t confirmed it yet but I have a sneaking suspicion that a raccoon is helping itself to the grapes. I am still very thankful to have fruit even if it does attract the critters.
The drawing is on hold until I feel better. I have been sick since Monday which has been strange and draining and a total drag, but I think I am starting to feel a bit better and will look forward to my energy level rising and being able to breath through my nose again.
I have finished one glove from my latest knitting design. I love it! I still need to weave in the ends and block it, but am feeling really good about this pattern and should be able to knit up the left hand fairly quickly, with a pattern to follow!

It’s become very obvious to me how much I like teal and purple. My projects page on Ravelry is littered with these two colors.
I am really excited about my latest projects. I will have a new pattern to publish soon, and here’s a sneak peak!
I really like this embroidered white fabric paired with white linen…any guesses on what this might be?
Then there is the “in progress” painting. I know exactly what I want to do with/change about it, and might be able to find some time this weekend.

I have officially mastered mittens, for children and adults. The first mitten pattern is from Knitting Nature, Target Wave Mittens. Adorable! I really love the colors and think the pattern is quite unique. I made a few minor modifications to the thumb so that it would naturally curve upward, instead of straight out the side. And to my surprise they are created entirely on straight needles!
The next pair of mittens are for me. I am well aware that winter is a long way off. Maybe I just want to be prepared! Actually it came down to the fact that I had the perfect yarn, an already purchased pattern, and the motivation to wind the yarn one afternoon. It is a wonderful pattern All The Water, written by Kirsten Kapur from Through The Loops. I followed her mystery sock knit-a-long over this past Thanksgving while vacationing in Vermont. I used pure alpaca by Cascade Yarns for these mittens and they are incredibly soft and really warm. I love the way the cables run on either side and how the middle one looks like a braid…which leads me to my next topic.
Challah. I have been passing over this recipe for a while, and each time I’ve wanted to make it more and more. So I finally made it today. There are few things better than fresh homemade bread. It is so good, and even better with the homemade honey butter that I made to go with it!

This tank top has been finished for a few months and it needed a few photos. I rarely photograph clothing on my dress form because it is a lovely cobalt blue color that clashes with everything I put on it, but not anymore. I made a complete canvas cover for it, for her, the nameless dress form…and I’m pretty psyched about it. Not only will it be better for photographing, it is also great for when I’m pinning and designing clothing, because it no longer has the large spaces in the adjustment areas. I was just about finished making the cover when my sewing machine died. No power, no nothing – static. What a bummer, but it’s now fixed, raring to go and I think I will be treating it with something other than New Belgium bandanas for the next week.
As for the tank top, I will not be knitting another one of these. I’m not a huge fan. It’s possible that I just really hate using other people’s patterns, but most of the time other patterns teach me a thing or two so I’ll stop complaining. It’s finished!

Above: I have more knitting ideas, than time to knit. My wonderful mother got me Shirley Paden’s new book for Mother’s Day, Knitwear Design Workshop and it is amazing! I can’t wait to learn from everything Shirley has to offer. She has created some of the most beautiful knitwear that I have ever seen.
Below: I finished some socks this week for Whitney. These aren’t the final photos I want, but she will be in Austin, TX for a few days attending The Renegade Craft Fair: Austin.
Above: I just received my newest stash building addition. 10 skeins of Tahki Yarns New Tweed for more Urban Bandit headbands. They are all beautiful.
Below: Here is my lovely assortment of fresh herbs that I got, with basil, oregano, thyme, parsley, and chives. Still need to get from cilantro and dill, can’t wait!

This post is mostly about what is blooming and growing around my yard, with a little bit of knitting. I have realized that I not only have apple trees, I also have an apricot tree, a pear tree, plum or cherry, and grape vines. There are lilacs, roses, peonies and iris…I feel blessed. It is a beautiful day here today, I think I am going to go out and enjoy it.

I am proud and excited to announce that I have sold my first tangible item on Etsy. This past week was a good start for me, with a total of six sales. Five of them were for knitting patterns and the other was for the blue Urban Bandit headband which is now on its way to Australia. I was also featured for a second time in a treasury listing. Next step; front page! With more patterns to come, and hopefully more sales, I will surely get there.

It’s here! I am finally figuring my way around the “designer” knitting world. Creating patterns is not for the faint of heart. It is a pretty big process to complete, and do well. I am starting small and will be working my way up to larger garments, but for now this pattern is available on Ravelry as Urban Bandit. If you are on Ravelry, please favorite any of my work that appeals to you! Thanks.
