Soaking in the sun

From our trip to Grand Lake outside in the sun. Parker seems to really enjoy the outdoors, even if it is really windy and the sun is in his face, he never appears to mind. We hope to take him on many more adventures, we just wish he was going to remember some of them. I guess we’ll just have to take many pictures to show him when he’s older.

I found this little guy on my car just the other day and decided to take him home to photograph. They are so interesting to see up close. I took him as a sign of good luck, hopefully he will be.

Justin came home with a special surprise gift for me the other day. Along with the tiny toads we have found lately in our backyard, here is one of my own to add.

Garden Glory

As a child I was lucky to have grown up with an enormous vegetable garden which saved us from ever eating canned or frozen vegetables from the grocery store. Living on 100 acres gave us plenty of room for flower and vegetable gardens. I suppose it’s no surprise that I am gardening for myself again. Other than a previous year in Vermont, I haven’t had any sort of garden until now.

Along with our complete and beautiful landscape I am excited to say that we have our very own 300 square foot patch of “garden glory”. This year will be a bit of an experiment since I’ve never grown anything in Colorado before. Two weeks ago we planted peas, tomatoes, peppers, beans, carrots, broccoli, spinach, lettuce, cucumbers, onions and a list of herbs.

Sadly our soil here is a lovely clay that bakes to a crisp in the summer sun. Not only is it hard to dig and plant in, it isn’t a very promising bed of nutrients. So we’ve taken the plunge into composting. It’s nice to know that we won’t be throwing away our valuable food scraps anymore and we will have rich soil to add to the garden as well as the lawn. I wanted to share some pictures of what we have started and hopefully there will be beautiful vegetable shots to come.

Toys in babyland

Nothing is nicer than all the wonderful gifts that people give you when you’re expecting a baby. Nothing is more precious than seeing how tiny everything actually is. From the bite size socks, to the miniature onesies, it is all rather amazing. A few photos to show how our lives are magically changing into expecting parents.

Before he arrives

As first time parents Justin and I have had a lot to think about and do before Parker actually arrives. Between working, doctor appointments, and general life…I somehow managed to paint the majority of Parkers room. (With finishing touches owed to Justin and his dad.) I decided before I began that I wanted to document as much as possible about Parker’s life and his surroundings so that years from now he can have something to look back on for the things he won’t remember about his childhood. I have to admit that nothing is more fun than sitting around looking at Justin’s family photo albums after dinner. So here’s to it; a little taste of painting Parker’s room.
