I truly love where I live. I live at the end of a private (dirt) road on the outskirts of Fort Collins, CO. I took these photographs while standing at the western edge of my property. My front windows showcases this view of the foothills. It is quiet, peaceful, and beautiful. One of my favorite places to reflect is down by the marsh. The air is always moving in Colorado and it is almost hypnotizing to watch the cattails sway in the breeze. It’s comforting to know that nothing is ever going to be built in this particular area…at least not anytime soon. I think it is adorable that Parker has become so attached to his bulldozer. It is what comforts him, and I love that he is such a boy.

I am in the middle of looking for as many pear recipes as I can find. The pear tree is getting so close to harvest I can hardly contain myself. Our apple trees smell so delicious outside and I think the deer would agree. Lately I have had a little issue with the deer helping themselves to the branches of my tomato plants. I can’t really blame them considering the garden is pretty open for temptation, and the apple trees are also right there for them. I haven’t confirmed it yet but I have a sneaking suspicion that a raccoon is helping itself to the grapes. I am still very thankful to have fruit even if it does attract the critters.

The drawing is on hold until I feel better. I have been sick since Monday which has been strange and draining and a total drag, but I think I am starting to feel a bit better and will look forward to my energy level rising and being able to breath through my nose again.

I have finished one glove from my latest knitting design. I love it! I still need to weave in the ends and block it, but am feeling really good about this pattern and should be able to knit up the left hand fairly quickly, with a pattern to follow!

I haven’t had any time for posting lately. I’ve been working hard and getting a lot done, but I’ve also spent a lot of time contemplating. My life has been shifting into a heightened sense of awareness, the path that is folding out before me is positive and exciting. I am taking full advantage of spending time with my son in these precious moments of his life which I will not be able to do over. He is growing so quickly and I love being able to watch him grow and become his own person. The stronger I can be, the stronger he will be. Even with all the struggles this has been the best year of my life.

I drive by these horses quite often and I never tire of seeing them. They are my favorite horses to see, and the closer to the road the better. They actually aren’t even very close to the road, but I happened to have my camera with me today and I have been telling myself for weeks that I would take photos. There is something so unique about paint horses, with their different patterns. If you look close enough in the last photo with the most horses you can see that there are even more horses in the distance. Those horses are actually in a different field, but they are all paints as well and sometimes you can see them better on the cross street. Altogether there might be a total of 20 or so, apparently with more on the way considering the new foal that is resting in the grass.
I love how all of the birds hang out with these horses. They go hand in hand for this particular group. I remember one day, many months ago, I was in a bit of a bad mood, and I drove up on these horses and saw 3 birds perched upon one horse’s back, it made me smile and feel completely happy. It’s funny how something so simple can change your mood. There is a bird perched on the back of the black horse in the second photo.

I am proud and excited to announce that I have sold my first tangible item on Etsy. This past week was a good start for me, with a total of six sales. Five of them were for knitting patterns and the other was for the blue Urban Bandit headband which is now on its way to Australia. I was also featured for a second time in a treasury listing. Next step; front page! With more patterns to come, and hopefully more sales, I will surely get there.

There has been a lot going on around here this past week, a little crazy, but all good. I am on a roll with my headband design and am excited to design some other ones as well. Each day is fresh start for inspiration, and it is impossible not to be inspired by the beauty that is happening around me as life unfolds.

Above: I found this material at a thrift store and fell in love with the simple pattern. Next step: knit it.
Below: The second Urban Bandit in a beautiful new shade. This color makes me love gold…and I hate gold, funny. Using my first pair of Addi needles, glorious!

Above: More progress on the coat: found the prefect buttons, and am still experimenting with the closure strap. I actually have these exact buttons in a rectangular shape and really wanted to use them, but I needed round ones, so when I found these at my local yarn shop I was bursting with joy.
Below: My crafts aren’t the only things that are “in the works this week.” My Fiddle-Leaf Fig is growing beautifully, and has put out seven new leaves since I got it. I used to work for Charles Shackleton Furniture & Miranda Thomas Pottery when I lived in Vermont and they had a couple of these in their showrooms, and I have wanted one ever since. I didn’t have high hopes for mine surviving when I got it from Home Depot. It was in pretty poor shape and there was originally two in the pot, but one died and this one has big brown dead spots on its first leaves, but all of the new growth looks perfect and I hope I can have it long enough to watch it grow into a tree.

I have a theory: It is better to buy plants from Home Depot than a nursery. I believe that the plants at Home Depot are in such a poor environment, with terrible lighting, crappy soil, and have improper waterings, that when you get them home they are so much happier that they tend to live well (if you care for them properly). When you buy plants from a nursery you are bringing them home into an environment that probably isn’t as good as the nursery’s, and I think it tends to be harder to keep them happy through that adjustment period. This theory only applies to indoor plants, it is opposite for outdoor plants.

This is Bob. Poor Bob. I love Bob. He really is the cutest, sweetest dog, and I am happy to take care of him for my friends. I know that they would do the same for me if the situation ever arose. This big baby had to take a trip to the vet for a little surgery and a few stitches yesterday. He is doing well, and I am going to keep an eye on him for a few days…and maybe spoil him a bit. Parker really likes Bob too and likes getting kisses from him, even with “the cone of shame”. So now he gets two sloppy dog kisses before bed instead of just one. My posting may be a bit sporadic for the next few days with other things to worry about, but I shall be around.
