I may have a slight issue with starting too many art projects and not finishing any of them. It drives me insane as well as Justin. I seem to need to have a variety of things going to keep myself interested, but if I don’t end up finishing anything…what is the point? I have decided that I would write about all of the different things I have going and publish them, which in turn might force me into feeling shameful enough to finish something. I can keep track and update along the way and hopefully write the check-mark off each thing on the list.
Painting -
From our trip to Grand Lake Colorado, I had taken a photo that inspired me to paint. I got a brand new easel for my birthday and this is the first painting I have done with it. It is hard to find solid time to paint especially with Parker, but I am hoping to really get focused and finish this one. I don’t normally show anyone my paintings until they are done…so this is a rare privilege.
Quilt -
I am making a quilt for Justin. I designed the entire thing myself and went with a western/native american theme because he’s really into that. The whole thing is black and white with a few bits of turquois color. I would love to be able to display more, but the design is supposed to be a surprise, so I don’t want to give it all away. If I am able to finish it, we can use it to keep us warm this winter.
Drawing -
I have a developing interest in illustration. I went to Savannah College of Art and Design, but couldn’t afford to continue going past my first year. Private school is expensive and I wish I hadn’t learned that the hard way and sacrificed my education. I am slowly learning my way into Adobe Illustrator and this drawing of an owl was something I started as a project to bring into Illustrator and play with, but I can’t do that until I finish it.
Knitting -
I started this scarf shortly after Parker was born, right after picking up a wonderful knitting book while my mom was visiting. Vogue Knitting. She is the one who taught me how to knit and crochet. Granted I have never been a big fan of knitting because it takes so bloody long, but knitting allows a much broader range of cool stitches. Admittedly after trying a couple of the most difficult patterns in the book (I always seems to take on the hardest tasks when I’m not very experienced) I ended up choosing a rather easy pattern to knit. The verdict so far is that I hate it. I think it’s ugly and I probably won’t ever wear it, but I feel I should finish it anyway because I have worked hard on it and it has taken me a long time. If I finish this one I can start a new more beautiful one with my new bamboo knitting needles. I can always give it as a gift right?
