I honestly feel bad for all of the people in this world who are uncomfortable around horses. I think they are some of the most magnificent creatures on the planet. I was blessed to have a best friend growing up that had horses, so I’ve always had that appreciation for them.

Justin, Parker and I had the chance to see a draft horse show at The Ranch this past weekend. An incredible day for me because draft horses are a particularly special beast. Massive, to say the least. We went early for a university demonstration of cart judging. 1 Belgian, 2 Clydesdales and 3 Percherons. Amazing. I took a lot of photos, none of them fantastic, but I’d like to share and show everyone the story.

One of my other amaryllis has bloomed for the season. They have been a funny bunch this year. Out of the three I potted; the first one: has a marvelous collection of leaves, full, lush and green, but not a bud stem in sight. (I figured out why, but we don’t need to get into that.) The second: had rather flimsy leaves, with a single bud stem which displayed two white flowers. The Third: would be considered a rock star. Honestly I didn’t have high hopes for this one at the beginning of the winter. The life inside stayed on a non-growing strike for weeks. Number two was just about in full bloom before number three decided it would do anything this year. It turns out that it would grow 3 bud stems and each with 3 flowers…with very little leaves. It made me laugh because of how very different each one of them turned out.

Parker got to see the fattest squirrel in the world, along with a silly woodpecker, and a baby calf, all in one day at Lee Martinez park last week. It was cold out, but the sunshine was beautiful.

Somehow I decided 10 days before Christmas that I would make this scarf for a gift. My intension was to give it on the big day but soon after starting it I realized it was going to be a bit more time consuming than I had hoped. Also with all of the holiday madness with baking and shopping, there just wasn’t enough practical time to work on it. So I finished it yesterday. I am pleased with how it turned out. Ended up being about 9 inches wide and over 300 rows long. Thick, soft and warm is what I was going for, which it surely is. I hope all of you can enjoy the new knits to come, I think there will probably be a lot of them.

Whew! The holidays have come and gone for another year. Our Christmas was wonderful this year. Parker was so much fun to watch with all of his new toys and fabulous wonders.
In the days before Christmas I was a busy bee in the kitchen with flour covered counters and the sweet smell of holiday cookies in the kitchen. I made cookies for all of our friends and neighbors along with homemade dog biscuits for the families with pets. I believe the final count was 155 cookies to all…and some left over for us of course (I may have had more than my fair share of baked goods over the holiday).
Along with cookies I took on the pleasure of making Christmas breakfast for the family which I believe was a hit considering seconds were had and the only thing remaining was the extra batch of Dog Team Tavern sticky buns that I made. The tavern was a restaurant that our family used to eat at in Vermont. Thanks Mom, for giving me the idea to make them! The winter fruit compote was a flavorful citrus delight and the smoked ham and swiss quiche was perfect.
Justin and I also hosted Christmas dinner later that evening, which was good as well (but not as good as breakfast in my opinion). I was hoping that one of our 3 amaryllis that I had potted would be in bloom for Christmas day…one was definitely ready to burst, but the show came afterward, a couple of days later. They really do amaze me as a flower and I will probably have many more of them over the next few years.

Unfortunately we had no snow to speak of on the big day (they’re hogging it all in Vermont), but I did manage to snap a few pictures the day it did snow months ago.

All in all I am very excited to start this new year. There have been many ideas brewing in my head for crafty projects to come…so much brewing that I couldn’t even sleep last night! But thank goodness for Parker’s amazing sleep routine. He slept from 4:30 pm to 7:00 am this morning and his last meal had been at 1:00 in the afternoon!
